Case Study: Orotavia Capital City Municipality

The case study Orotavia was developed to facilitate the Internal Audit Training of Trainers workshops and simulates a capital city municipality. The case study is the core teaching resource during the Fundamentals and Advanced Internal Audit Training of Trainers modules and workshops and provides an opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and the practical application of International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPIA) while also assisting to develop soft skills such as communication, working as a team and problem solving.

Accountancy Education Benchmarking Study

Six countries, members of the EU-REPARIS Program’s Education Community of Practice (EduCop) – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia FYR, Montenegro and Serbia – participated in an Accountancy Education Benchmarking Study between March 2015 and May 2016. The Study was a comprehensive assessment of the countries’ 14 universities and PAOs, which together provide 25 academic and professional accountancy education programs to around 4,120 enrolled students.

Study on Accounting Regulation for Business Combinations

This study is available in both English and Polish and includes an analysis of domestic and international accounting standards applicable to business combinations. It also features a review of literature available on the subject as well as practical information and case studies. In conclusion, the report proposes enhancements to existing legislation to ensure compliance with EU laws and regulations, in particular with Directive 2013/34/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 June 2013 on the annual financial statements.

Practical guide for PAOs on continuing professional development for accountants

Professional accountants recognize that achieving and maintaining the highest levels of professional competence help them win business and retain clients. Professional Accountancy Organizations (PAOs) have an important role to play in encouraging, facilitating and monitoring life-long learning. With the support of participating PAOs involved in the EU-REPARIS Audit Training of Trainers program, the World Bank Centre for Financial Reporting Reform has produced a short practical guide on Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Roundtable on National Accounting Education Initiatives

On April 20th 2018, a roundtable discussion on accounting education and certification was hosted at the World Bank office in Baku. Over 20 participants represented a range of stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Taxation, Professional Accountancy Organizations and Universities, the Chamber of Auditors, and representatives of business and industry. Representatives for Azerbaijan on the STAREP Education Community of Practice were all present.

Audit Training of Trainers Virtual Workshop: Updates from IAASB, IESBA and IFAC’s SMP Committee

This virtual workshop updated participants on the ongoing initiatives of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Small and Medium Practices (SMP) Committee over 2017. Participants also received insights into the priorities and future projects of the IAASB, IESBA and the IFAC SMP Committee.

The overall aim of the Audit Training of Trainers workshops is to increase the audit profession's capacity to deliver high-quality training and continuing professional development (CPD) programs based on the Standards of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board® (IAASB®). In particular, the workshop series focuses on the needs and challenges of Small and Medium-sized Practices (SMPs) to implement International Standards.

Audit Training of Trainers Virtual Workshop: Update from the Standard Setting Boards (IAASB & IESBA)

This virtual workshop allowed participants to gain insight into proposed revisions and standards issued by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standard Board (IESBA) and become updated with these developments directly from the Standard Setting Boards.

Senior Officials’ Workshop

On 26 November, 2018, the World Bank’s Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR) held the Senior Officials’ Workshop in Vienna, including senior officials from the Ministries of Finance and audit oversight institutions from the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), to discuss and reflect upon the status and implementation of their financial reporting reforms.
