Capacity Building of Accountants and Auditors in Ukraine: Path to Improving Accounting and Audit University Curricula – Polish Experience
Over 50 participants attended the “Path to Improving Accounting and Audit Curricula in University – Polish Experience” webinar, which brought together representatives from universities teaching accounting and audit, professional accountancy organizations (PAOs), auditors, accountants, and academia. The event was organized by the Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR) at the request of the Audit Public Oversight Body of Ukraine and featured presentations from the Warsaw School of Economics.
The main objective of the event was to present good practices in building a consistent accounting education at both university and PAO levels. The webinar focused on strategies that had been used to improve educational programs for accountants and auditors in Polish universities, drawing on experiences from the World Bank FRTAP Poland Program and the Warsaw School of Economics. Discussions highlighted approaches to identifying gaps in current curricula, incorporating modern practices, and aligning educational content with International Education Standards and European Union requirements. The event also explored the path to accreditation by professional organizations, with the Warsaw School of Economics sharing practical insights into the requirements, steps, and benefits of the process.
Key messages from the event emphasized the variety of professional development pathways available to aspiring accountants and auditors at the university level. It was noted that these pathways should be consistent with international best practices, support further professional development, and meet regulatory requirements. An interactive discussion allowed participants to share experiences and best practices, and the session concluded with a summary of key points and encouragement for ongoing collaboration and innovation. The experience shared by the Warsaw School of Economics will be used in updating Ukrainian national education standards for teaching accounting and audit in universities.
Participants provided positive feedback on the event’s substance. The Audit Public Oversight Body of Ukraine plans to organize further events at the country level, to continue building support for the modernization and alignment of accounting and audit education in Ukraine.
