The Accounting and Auditing Education Community of Practice of the regional Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Countries of the Eastern Partnership (STAREP) program took part in a virtual seminar on November 28, 2017. The seminar focused on the implementation of competency-based accounting education, including providing feedback on a new education and training guide book being produced as part of the STAREP program. Members of the EDUCOP were very enthusiastic about the guide, and will be providing detailed feedback to the authors.

Participants, including members of the Kyrgyz Audit and Reporting Enhancement Project who were invited to join the event, also discussed the progress of different national initiatives underway to develop internationally compatible accounting education at university and professional development levels. A number of similar challenges emerged throughout the STAREP countries including regulatory issues, the shortage of education resources based on international standards, and the need for greater cooperation between universities and PAOs. Involvement of the business community was also discussed, with the objective of developing the practical skills of students and their access to internship opportunities.
