The guide supports transitioning accounting education, training, and certification from a knowledge-based approach to a competency-based approach. Underlying this shift is the expanding expectation for accountants to professional judgment in response to greater transaction complexity, interconnectedness of entities, and broader global influences.
Six countries, members of the EU-REPARIS Program’s Education Community of Practice (EduCop) – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia FYR, Montenegro and Serbia – participated in an Accountancy Education Benchmarking Study between March 2015 and May 2016. The Study was a comprehensive assessment of the countries’ 14 universities and PAOs, which together provide 25 academic and professional accountancy education programs to around 4,120 enrolled students.
The report describes the South-South Curricula Improvement Exchange Program for Moldova, which was completed in 2013 and resulted in ASEM producing revised university curricula for implementation from the academic year beginning in 2014, by which time they also aimed to be ACCA accredited.
Sound systems of accountancy education increase the labor readiness and skills of the next generation accountancy workforce, produce competent and capable practitioners whose expertise and professionalism contribute significantly to financial decision making and help build public trust and confidence. The EU REPARIS Accountancy Education Benchmarking Study gives the participating institutions clear information on their educational provision and how it compares to international expectations.
The Public Sector Accounting and Reporting (PULSAR) Program held a joint workshop on December 1, 2022, for members of its Communities of Practice: on Financial Reporting (FinCoP) and Education (EduCoP). The EduCop was also joined by the members of The Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in Countries of the Eastern Partnership (STAREP) Program. The workshop was organized by the World Bank Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR) as part of events marking 15 years of CFRR activities.
The Round table, organized by Governance GP Global Unit, is an activity of the FASE program whose objective is to develop more accounting technicians in Africa to support growth, accountability, and efficiency in the public and private sectors in Africa. The Program (2018-2025), funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, includes two streams of activities.
Around 40 experts and practitioners from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia took part in this regional workshop focusing on accounting education reforms. This was the sixth workshop to have been organized by the STAREP education community since 2014. Previous workshops have focused on the content of undergraduate accounting degree programs.
